What is the NDIS? We are so glad you asked.

It’s an Australian federal government scheme that helps people living with disabilities enjoy a better quality of life. It does this by creating more job opportunities for skilled and certified graduates to work within the community and disability care sector.

The NDIS (or National Disability Insurance Scheme) was initiated in 2013 to create a ‘managed market’ for support services to enable people living with disabilities to remain in their preferred home environment rather than having to go into a care facility. It allows people to live with more independence and use their own NDIS ‘care budget’ to pick and choose the most appropriate services, equipment, and support for their needs.

Current statistics reveal that there are around 4.3million Australians living with a disability. Once fully rolled out, the NDIS expects to provide funding for support and services for around 460,000 Australians aged under 65 years who have permanent and significant disabilities. The intent is to connect them with information and services such as doctors, sporting clubs, support groups and schools within their area and state.

What does this mean for a student or future at h&h Accredited Training? It means that when you graduate, you will have a better chance of getting a job. This is because the NDIS will be creating a lot more employment opportunities within the disability sector, with approximately 70,000 vacancies needing to be filled by 2020.

In fact, according to The Australian newspaper, in 2017, “the $22 billion taxpayer-funded National Disability Insurance Scheme was responsible for as many as 52,000 of the new jobs created.”

That’s a lot of jobs, with many vacancies still waiting to be filled in the coming 12 months.

Do you want to be a part of that employment boom? h&h can help you get there.
